Timeline Events WWII pin up shoot in conjunction with the Hanger 11 P-51D Mustang ' Tall in the Saddle" and P-40M Kittyhawk 'Lulu Belle'.
A month ago I spent two wonderful weeks at the beautiful Marakissa River Camp in the Gambia. In my view one of the best places for photographing Gambian birds for sure.
Imagine canoeing on mirror like waters, at the earliest hours of the morning. With no other sounds to accompany you than the singing of birds.
I found this beautifully perched male Pin-tailed Whydah quite high in a tree. Sitting in the canoe I got the sky as background and obviously I preferred the green shrubs. So, very carefully, I stood up in the wobbly canoe, took a few shots and sat down quickly again.:-) But I'm glad I did!

Richie Fahey's "Pin-Up Girl: Quiet Please Librarian" was my inspiration for part of the shoot.
There is something about this shot that I love....to me it is very retro type pin-up . The whole scene looks great from the sultry model to the ugly toilet sign in the background.

PADDY: "Daddy? Daddy!"
DADDY: "Yes Paddy?" *Photographs Chinese Lanterns.*
PADDY: "How much longer are you going to take photos of those pretty Chinese Lanterns?"
DADDY: "Not too much longer." *Continues to photograph Chinese Lanterns.*
PADDY: "Well Scout and I are going to just have a little sit down whilst you do. Even in my comfortable red leather wellies, my paws are tired. Is that alright if we sit down?"
DADDY: "Of course it is Paddy, just don't wander too far away. I want to be able to see you." *Turns around and smiles at Paddy and Scout.*
PADDY: "Oh we are just going to sit on this deckchair over here." *Points to an orange striped deckchair.* "Come Scout."
SCOUT: "Yes Paddy. I'm tired."
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his Macintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his Macintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout is a recent addition to our little family. He was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Paddy, Scout and I had a lovely late afternoon into evening outing at Melbourne's famous Southbank with the Flickr Famous Five + Group. Walking along the corniche by the Yarra River provides some beautiful views of the Melbourne central business district, also known as "the grid" because the original Melbourne city was based on a grid of main streets. At the end of our promenade, we stopped for dinner at a restaurant overlooking the water, which had some fabulous deck chairs outside it.
Southbank is a vibrant arts and dining precinct built along the Yarra River on the former site of the Allan's Sweets factory and other industrial buildings. It was transformed into a densely populated district of high rise apartment and office buildings beginning in the early 1990s, as part of an urban renewal program. With the exceptions of the cultural precinct along nearby St Kilda Road, few buildings built before this time were spared by redevelopment. Today, Southbank is dominated by high-rise development. It is one of the primary business centres in Greater Melbourne. Southbank Promenade and Southgate Restaurant and Shopping Precinct, on the southern bank of the Yarra River is one of Melbourne's major entertainment precincts.

Pin hole photography-
first prepared the camera using cap and aluminum foil (so many videos are available on you tube to make pin hole camera set up).
it was but difficult to get first shot out of camera with little clarity of image.
Later made several changes to iso and shutter speed setting to get first shot out of camera. it was great fun to try something new with dslr.
Learning/tip- keep hole size as small as possible using fine needle.
use longer exposure and iso setting to normal range.
